All through the eighth and ninth centuries science worked from the assumption that reality was just a machine, and that if one had enough information one could predict the future years or decades in advance. But at the end of the ninth century that assumption started running into problems. First radiation refused to work with the math they had developed for understanding machines. This called for the development of new math. The new math then made no sense when used to understand the experiences we have in our everyday reality, but by the end of the twentieth century it was clear that there was more to reality than our everyday mechanical reality. In fact it has become clear that the mechanical reality we experience, which is hard and real, is just some form of illusion. It turns out that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience.
