Subliminal Unrelated words
We will now repeat step 2 except this time the middle word tree will be subliminal or too fast for the subject to consciously see the word.
In dozens of tests, it did not matter whether the middle word tree (the unrelated word) was subliminal or visable to awareness, it took the longer time, and that tells us that it is the brain and not conscious awareness that is seeing the middle word.
Step 4
Subliminal Related Words
Now, if we repeat step 1,(the middle word related to the last) but this time make the middle word sub-liminal, we should get the same results as before, the shorter time. It should not matter that the middle word is subliminal because in many tests before the brain could still see it. But wait, what if awareness itself is a real thing and not just part of the brain? Awareness would be what chooses the meaning of the last word, and if it can’t see the middle word, to give it a clue, the result would be the same as in step 2, the longer time. In other words, if Consciousness is just a part of the brain and the brain can see the middle word the result will be the faster time, but if Consciousness itself is a separate thing from the brain it would not be able to see the middle word, and the result will be the longer time.
